Franklin is a town in Merrimack County. The town was originally settled in 1764, and the original name was Pemigewasset Village, changing the name to Franklin in 1820. The town developed as a mill town, and is the birthplace of Daniel Webster.
One of the sights to see is the Franklin Falls Reservoir., which was created in 1943 by the Army Corp of Engineers. This was achieved by creating the Franklin Dam for the purpose of flood control on the Pemigewasset River. Another place of note is the "upside-down railroad bridge" known as the Sulphite Railroad Bridge.
One of the best kept secrets of the Lakes Region is Webster Lake. This smaller lake offers some wonderful fishing, depending on the time of year, depends on the variety of Bass, or maybe a catfish.
